Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies from Fresno State University
Clear Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from Fresno Pacific University
Hi my name is Brenda (Pauls) Horton. I am blessed to be an alumni of Immanuel High school and am so excited to be back and now working in this remarkable Christ centered community. It has been a sign of grace to see God’s hand in bringing me back to this community.
I grew up in Dinuba and attended Dinuba Mennonite Brethren Church. After graduating from Immanuel I pursued a science degree thinking that I would work in sports medicine or nursing. God had other plans for me. He made it possible for me to attend Biola university, and during my time there I became aware that my real passion was working with children in education. Although my time at Biola was short, I cherished the biblical and spiritual training that I received.
I came back to the area to complete my degree in liberal studies at Fresno State and then my teaching credential at Fresno Pacific. Since then, I have worked in various ways in education as a Kindergarten teacher, tutor and research analyst at an educational research company. During that time I also pursued a degree in Theology at the Mennonite Brethren Biblical Seminary. God has given me a passion to know Him more through his Word and I’m excited to share that passion with the children I work with. I’m also excited to help students know their value in the Lord, and help them find joy and confidence in learning.
My husband, Brian, and I live in Clovis and have a beautiful girl named Abby whom I have had the privilege to stay home and raise the last 9 years. As a family we love to camp and hang out at the beach. Our favorite week of the year is spent up at Hume Lake Christian Camp during the summer, enjoying all that Hume is.
Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord. 1 Corinthians 1:26-31
